Life After High School Dance... What's Next?



There’s nothing like being a part of a high school dance team. The camaraderie. The Friday Night Lights. The thrill of contest season. The rhinestones on rhinestones. And we can’t forget the unforgettable memories made with lifelong friends.

We’re totally feeling the nostalgia!

One common misconception is that those things leave when you graduate high school. It doesn’t have to! Well, maybe no more Friday Night Lights, but they could potentially turn into a College Game Day…or even Sunday Night Football!

High school dance doesn’t have to be the end all. It can be the basis for an incredible dance journey, and there are several paths you could venture down:

College Dance Teams 
College Dance Programs
Kilgore College Rangerettes 
Tyler Junior College Apache Belles 
NFL Cheerleader 
NBA Dancer 
Semi-professional Dance Companies 
Professional Dance Companies 
Dance Teaching 
Dance Directing


And that’s just off the top of our heads!

Now that you know the opportunity is there, set a goal for yourself. Research the requirements for college dance teams, NFL teams, NBA teams, companies, etc., Decide which speaks to your heart the most, and go for it!

The rhinestones and memories don’t have to end at high school graduation. If dance is truly something you are passionate about, commit to taking that next step!

At What Point In Your Dance Career Can You Stop Learning?

Last week I began my career as a Radio City Rockette, prepping for the 85 th season of the Christmas Spectacular performed at the iconic music hall. (I’m still trying to let all of that sink in, by the way.) Talk about hitting the ground running! The Art of Improvisation

“Before we start the combo, you have about six 8’s of improv…” How many of you got anxiety just from reading that statement? Trust me, I get it. I was the dancer that cringed at the thought of improvisation. It wasn’t something that I was used to, and all I could think about was how awkward I felt and probably looked. So, I kept doing it. Sounds crazy, right? It’s actually pretty sane. They say the thing that scares you the most just may be the thing that gives you the most reward. So you better believe I was doing improv every chance I had in class! And I finally got to a comfortable place in my movement. You, too, can get to that point!
